Invaders Of Tax Cautioned
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has entreated all income earning members of the public to make sure that registration with the tax authority is done and their taxes paid accordingly.
The commissioner General of GRA, Emmanuel Kofi Nti appealed to all income earners during the 2017 awards ceremony which was aimed at recognizing outstanding tax contributors and staff members.
The awards were directed at appreciating tax payers and business owners who fulfilled their tax obligations often during the year under revenue and entreated all and sundry to avoid the habit of not paying taxes since it does not help promote the economy.
“I wish to take this opportunity to appeal to all taxpayers and income earners not yet in GRA books to register or re- register for purpose of paying their taxes to take advantage of the Tax Amnesty period by coming forward to regularize and straighten their tax records before it expires at the end of August, 2018”, Emmanuel Kofi Nti said.
He added,” we are ready to reward where necessary and at the same time impose sanctions on tax payers who intentionally decide to evade their duties and obligations”.
Encouraging the awardees, he humbly requested them to perform their obligations like never before and congratulated the management of GRA and their staff for their exquisite display of leadership and support for the formulated plans which was to able to generate revenue mobilization and enabling the organization meet its targets.
interestingly, a large percentage of the youth who are employable still remain unemployed and equally pays taxes just as income earners. How then can this motivate them to pay taxes when they are finally employed?
This remains a question left unanswered in the minds of many Ghanaians.
